23 May The Health DG encourages the public to practice self-lockdown because the health system is under severe strain
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham bin Abdullah, Malaysia’s Health Director-General, is encouraging the public to practice self-lockdown as the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths continues to rise, putting the health system under immense strain.
Dr. Noor Hisham stated in one of his Facebook posts on 22 May 2021 that the ICU bed usage in Klang Valley has reached 113%. As a result, other parts of the hospital, such as regular wards, have been temporarily repurposed to handle ICU patients. The wards are fully packed with patients and the frontliners are all in their PPE.
More beds with specialized medical equipment are also being built for hospitals. “The virus has already infiltrated the population. Dr. Noor Hisham said, “Obey the SOP and remain at home if there is no significant business outside.”
Furthermore, Dr. Noor Hisham encourages the public to engage in self-lockdown in order to break the Covid-19 chain. In another article, he adds that the frontliners are mentally and physically drained, and he again encourages the public to assist the Ministry of Health by practicing self-lockdown or “family lockdown.”
As the Covid-19 cases increase recently, more patients of category 4 and 5 require the use of beds with critical treatments or ICU. Therefore, please think about the frontliners, patients and your loved ones and follow the government’s SOPs at all times. – Adapted from World of Buzz
