01 Oct Saudi Arabia launches its first dog café to delight pet lovers
Saudi Arabia has once again shocked the world as it tries to redefine the limits of public life in the country, opening its first dog café to delight pet lovers. The kingdom is now launching its first dog-friendly café to please pet owners after a series of remarkable cultural shifts that included women driving, cinema openings, as well as foreign stars Usher and Akon rapping to sold-out audiences. In June, in the coastal town of Khobar, the café, The Barking Lot, opened its doors to delight animal lovers, as there are very few places for Saudis to take their pets away from home. Speaking to AFP, Dalal Ahmed, the Kuwaiti owner of the café, said that during a previous visit to the kingdom, she had the concept of a dog-friendly cafe. I came to Saudi Arabia for a dog visit, but I was not allowed to walk with him on the beach.
By opening a coffee shop for people who have pets, and also for those who don’t, “she said,” I was really sad and wanted to help. The furry pals playfully romp around at The Barking Lot, while others sit on the laps of their owners or wait patiently at the counter while their guardian drinks order. In one chapter, as part of the grooming services provided, canines are prepared for washing and blow drying. – Adapted from Malay Mail
