Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar was screened positive for coronavirus during a holiday to Ibiza, sources reported to ESPN. Neymar, who got the test results on Wednesday morning, is in good condition and observes the procedure, according to reports. He is now in self-isolation for 14 days at his home in Bougival, in the western suburbs of Paris, and will miss PSG’s first game of the season, against Lens on Sept. 10, and the Classique against Marseille on Sept. 13. A further source confirmed that Neymar is due to be retested.
Neymar’s teammate Angel Di Maria is now in self-isolation in Paris after a positive result for COVID-19, sources told ESPN. Argentina International also went to Ibiza for a holiday. Teammate Leandro Paredes, who spent his holidays with Di Maria on the island of Spain, has also been found positive and self-isolated, sources said.
Neymar is the new high-profile soccer star to report a positive virus test. After his test, Manchester United ‘s Paul Pogba was cut from the French squad. Pogba was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga in the squad of Didier Deschamps to face Sweden on Sept. 5 and Croatia on Sept. 8.
PSG is due to play Lens for their first Ligue 1 game. Their first match against Metz at the Parc des Princes was postponed due to the participation of PSG in the Champions League final, where they lost to Bayern Munich. – Adapted from ESPN
