12 Oct Interstate travelers who are unvaccinated will be compounded without warning by PDRM
The police have announced that they will be issuing compounds to unvaccinated individuals caught travelling interstate
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director CP Datuk Hazani Ghazali told Berita Harian that no warning will be given and the police will be stricter in ensuring that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are complied with.
In order to do that, police will be carrying out checks at crowded locations such as rest and recreation (R&R) stops and shopping malls to ensure that people who have yet to receive the vaccine will not take advantage of the situation.
“Surprise inspections will be done from time to time to ensure that individuals without vaccines do not take the opportunity to return to their hometowns,” he noted.
The government has already stated that those who want to travel interstate would need to complete their vaccination so they should abide by that,” Hazani added
“The matter of SOP compliance has been reminded since last year. There are times we have to be stern. This time, we will continue to immediately compound those who travel interstate without having completed their vaccination with no prior warning.”
He also noted that although there will be no designated roadblocks to control interstate movement, other roadblocks and operations such as Op Benteng will remain in place to tackle criminal activities and SOP violations.
Meanwhile, police in Kedah have set up special teams to conduct checks at supermarkets, restaurants, and R&R stops to ensure that only fully vaccinated individuals are in the premises
Kota Setar district police chief ACP Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir told Astro Awani that if people are found violating the SOP, action will be taken according to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
